Art Masters is designed to teach kids about various styles of art such as pointillism, impressionism, surrealism, pop art, abstract art, and more! Our goal is for students to walk away with an excitement and interest in art and learning. We foster an environment for students to release a lot of energy through movement and play. At the end of the lesson, students are excited to tell others what they have learned, and they want to learn more about the world of riddles.
Each class will have a different art style to create a special experience. We will learn about an artist who is famous for that style and we will create our own art in a fun, engaging project that helps us experience this way of creating. Students will play games that will enhance their creativity and work on their skills.
A typical class would begin with a scavenger hunt around the room. Students would look for examples of the art style we will study today. Without knowing the style, what do you notice about each of these works? What do they have in common. The teacher will then take the students to a few of the pieces and talk about the style of art we will focus on for that day. Then if we are learning pointillism for example, we may create a collaborative page of dot art using BINGO markers. Following that, we may create our own small work using paint and q-tips. Half way through each class we will learn about great artists who have made this art style popular. We will look at pictures, paintings, and their work. Finally, we will focus on creating our major art piece of the day which will save for our portfolio to present to our parents on the final class in March.
